چکیده
Most theoretical work is based on the PRAM-model which has a block of shared memory and executes in a synchronous lock-step mode. Real hardware usually executes asynchronously and uses local memory and message passing. The recent LogP-model reeects these architectural properties. We show that for a practically important subclass of PRAM-programs it is possible to transform them into LogP-programs. Our ultimate goal is to optimize the execution time on the LogP-machine. Although the problem is NP-hard it is often possible to achieve an approximation within a constant factor of two.

Process algebraic modeling of authentication protocols for analysis of parallel multi-session executions
Many security protocols have the aim of authenticating one agent acting as initiator to another agent acting as responder and vice versa. Sometimes, the authentication fails because of executing several parallel sessions of a protocol, and because an agent may play both the initiator and responder role in parallel sessions. We take advantage of the notion of transition systems to specify authen...
متن کاملA fuzzy mixed-integer goal programming model for a parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times and release dates
This paper presents a new mixed-integer goal programming (MIGP) model for a parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times and release dates. Two objectives are considered in the model to minimize the total weighted flow time and the total weighted tardiness simultaneously. Due to the com-plexity of the above model and uncertainty involved in real-world scheduling probl...
متن کاملObject-Oriented Parallel Programming
We introduce an object-oriented framework for parallel programming, which is based on the observation that programming objects can be naturally interpreted as processes. A parallel program consists of a collection of persistent processes that communicate by executing remote methods. We discuss code parallelization and process persistence, and explain the main ideas in the context of computation...
متن کاملExecuting Process Networks on Heterogeneous Platforms using OpenCL
Upcoming heterogeneous systems ask for new programming paradigms. Abstracting the underlying hardware architecture is desirable in order to support productive software development. This thesis proposes a design flow and runtime-system for executing process networks on heterogeneous systems using OpenCL. Process networks are a popular model of computation for deterministic parallel programming a...
متن کاملProcess-Oriented Parallel Programming with an Application to Data-Intensive Computing
We introduce process-oriented programming as a natural extension of object-oriented programming for parallel computing. It is based on the observation that every class of an object-oriented language can be instantiated as a process, accessible via a remote pointer. The introduction of process pointers requires no syntax extension, identifies processes with programming objects, and enables proce...
متن کاملEXECUTING NESTED PARALLEL LOOPS ON SHARED - MEMORYMULTIPROCESSORSSadun
Cache-coherent, bus-based shared-memory multiprocessors are a cost-eeective platform for parallel processing. In scientiic parallel applications, most of the computation involves processing of large multidimensional data structures which results in a high degree of data parallelism. This parallelism can be exploited in the form of nested parallel loops. Most existing shared memory multiprocesso...
